Cope with Sports

When you are in a new city, shared hatred is an excellent way to make some friends.

Being a Chelsea fan, I despise Manchester United, and when they lost to Feyenoord on Thursday I became friends with every dutch guy in my student house.

Playing sports is an time proven remedy for home sickness, because when you are playing a sport you are doing something that is familiar to you, in spite of being in a weird country with virtually no friends.(I’m secretly an introvert).

The first thing i wanted to do when my parents left, was to clean. i was cleaning as if my life depended on it, everyday too. this is something our body does to deal with stress; it makes us feel in control, even if your life is spiralling out of control and you are falling into a dark abyss to your death……………

Never mind.

Join a club, try out for your university team, play with random strangers; all of it helps to relieve your stress and you make friends in the process.

And it doesn't matter if you don't get the ball he first time you play(or that might just be me); they don't know you, you don't know them. Give it time and I promise it will become better.

it doesn't have to be just sports either, you could play video games, reread books, eat Maggi. Anything that comforts you is better than cleaning, unless of course cleaning comforts you.
