NRF-Nuffic Doctoral Training Programme

The National Research Foundation of South Africa (NRF) and Nuffic have joined forces in the NRF-Nuffic Doctoral Training Programme that will run between 2018 and 2022. The next call will open in the first half of 2020.

The NRF-Nuffic Doctoral Training Programme provides up to 50 doctoral scholarships for South African citizens and permanent residents, to do full-time PhD studies in The Netherlands and full-time PhD studies in a joint degree construction (studying partly in the Netherlands, partly in South Africa).


The next call for applications will open in the first half of 2020. For more information on the programme please consult the scholarship framework document ‌ (674.2 kB)and the application guide‌ (1.3 MB) of the 2019 call in which 20 PhD candidates were awarded a scholarship
