For Nuffic’s Netherlands Education Support office (NESO) in South Africa we have an opening for an Alumni & Mobility Officer. It is a temporary position for a period of 6 months to cover for a maternity leave and provide support. Start date: 1 December or 1 January.

Alumni & Mobility Officer (based in Pretoria) 

Nuffic is the Netherlands organisation for internationalisation in education. We are an independent, non-profit organisation based in The Hague, the Netherlands. We support the internationalisation of Dutch education and research and help improve access to education worldwide. Nuffic Neso South Africa (NESO) is an overseas office of Nuffic and part of a worldwide network of Netherlands Education Support Offices that operates in locations of strategic importance for Dutch higher education.

The main activities of NESO are:

  • Providing information for South African students on study and funding opportunities in the Netherlands
  • Providing information on study programmes and internship places for Dutch students in South Africa
  • Provide market information and analysis
  • Engage with the Holland Alumni network
  • Project development and management
  • Capacity development in education


What will you be doing?

As Alumni & Mobility Officer you will work on three main activities

  1. The Study in South Africa desk (providing information and support to Dutch students on study and internship places opportunities in South Africa
  2. The Holland Alumni network: engage with the community of South Africans who studied in the Netherlands
  3. Projects and programmes: support colleagues at Nuffic Neso South Africa in ongoing projects ad programmes

More concrete your activities will be as follows:

Study in South Africa Desk

  • Collect and provide information on possible study programmes, internships and for Dutch students in South Africa
  • Generate internships and/or research projects for students in companies
  • Provide information on practical issues in South Africa like visa, housing, safety, insurances, payments etc. to students from Dutch higher education institutions
  • Provide guidance to students from Dutch higher education institutions before and after their arrival.
  • Align activities with Nuffic colleagues in the Netherlands


Holland Alumni network

  • Maintain the South African part of the Holland Alumni website
  • Event organisation
  • Support the Holland alumni association by implementing an activities plan


Project & programme support

  • Support colleagues with event organisation and communication campaigns for information provision to Dutch and South African students


Job requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject
  • Knowledge and experience of higher education in South Africa and ideally in the Netherlands
  • Excellent verbal and written command of English
  • Proven networking, presentation, communication and event organising skills
  • Sound computer skills, especially in MS office applications
  • Ability to work independently and in a team
  • Willing and able to work and travel outside regular office hours

You will report directly to the Regional Director Southern Africa regarding activities and results and you will work closely with colleagues in South Africa, the Netherlands, and other NESO offices world-wide.

  • Salary: a range 24,000-32000 ZAR/month;
  • A contract for 6 months
