It was 8:40 in the morning when I was first carried into the Schiphol airport in a sea of people, people that were way too tall for me, and who smiled their biggest smile at me. Some even came up to me to ask if I needed help, yes, I might have been visibly struggling with my 3 suitcases. My whole life was packed into these suitcases, bright red for my own comfort, I was ready to move into the Netherlands, I was ready to study harder, learn better and live the grand, vibrant Dutch life.

A question I’ve had a lot of people ask me since I moved to Amsterdam is, “how are you handling all the rain and the dark cold winters???”. I’ve even had people say “I don’t think I could ever live somewhere that it rains so much”. Thankfully it’s not as bad as it gets made out to be. I’ve now lived through all four seasons here in Holland and I can tell you that just looking up the weather on google will not give you a fair idea of the reality.

The new academic year is about to start, and many international students are probably very anxious about their new life in Holland. "What will i eat?", "how do i travel?", "who will be my friends", "are my teachers nice?", etc. I have been in your shoes, so today i have composed a list of things (i think) that may help you a bit with having a good life in Holland.

I know the US election result has put many of us in disbelief, anger and despair; however, as the admission application deadlines of some universities in the Netherlands are approaching, we have to put those feeling aside and try to bring home the Orange dream. Perhaps this election result just adds another reason to the list of why international hopefuls should come to the Netherlands.
